GIF Not Playing or Too Large? Check the File Before Regenerating

First check whether the downloaded file itself animates. A still thumbnail, an oversized GIF and a rejected sticker pack are different problems. Keep the original file, identify the symptom, and change one thing at a time so you can verify the fix.

Open the GIF compressor

Only the thumbnail is still

Open the actual downloaded GIF in a browser or another animation-capable viewer. If it moves there, the preview or destination may be showing only a still frame. Send the original file as an animation or file rather than a screenshot. If the downloaded file is also still, confirm you selected the GIF export rather than a poster image.

The file is too large to send

Use the GIF compressor and begin with a shorter clip, smaller width or lower frame rate. Compare the resulting byte size and motion quality, then try the destination again. Limits can differ between messages, avatars, emoji and stickers—even within the same app. The tool does not guarantee an exact target size; if it keeps the original, try a stronger reduction.

The motion is too fast, slow or backwards

Use Change GIF Speed for timing and Reverse GIF for backwards playback. Keep the original and change only one setting initially. Watch the exported file, not just the source preview. Slowing down a low-frame-rate GIF can reveal stepping; it does not create extra in-between detail.

The sticker is rejected or sent as a document

Check that you are using the platform-specific export and the sticker-import workflow. A normal message attachment is not a pack installation. Extract the ZIP first. Use Telegram WebM for video stickers or WhatsApp WebP with a compatible animated-sticker importer, then check the installed pack in the app.

The generated face or pet is wrong

Compression and format conversion will not repair changed facial features, extra paws or a mismatched pet marking. Compare the creation with the source photo, choose a clearer reference or a simpler effect, and review a new generation. If the issue is missing GIF creation in ChatGPT, use the separate ChatGPT guide for feature availability rather than applying file-conversion fixes.

Questions before you start

Why is my GIF still after uploading it?

Compare the downloaded original in an animation-capable viewer with the uploaded result. If only the upload is still, inspect the destination’s upload type and animation support before regenerating.

Can I compress a GIF to an exact number of kilobytes?

This compressor offers clip, width and frame-rate controls, not an exact-size guarantee. Compare the output and adjust again if it exceeds the limit shown by your destination.

Will converting to MP4 fix a distorted face?

No. Conversion changes the file format; it does not correct the underlying generated frames.
